—HELPING PEOPLE IN NEED

Our Projects

Our region's permanent identifying project is the Founder Region Fellowship. This effort offers $20,000 in fellowships and grants to women enrolled in graduate schools within the boundaries of the Founder Region who are in the last year of their doctoral studies. The Raffle Tickets sold at the District Meeting in October of every year fund this program.

In addition to Fellowship, other Programs we support in the Founder Region are:

Women's Opportunity Award:  Established in 1972, the Women's Opportunity Award is Soroptimist International of the America's core program, helping women who have suffered hardships to reclaim and live their dreams. The program benefits women who, as primary wage earners for their families, need to obtain the skills, training and education necessary to improve their employment opportunities.

Violet Richardson Award:  Each year we honor the volunteer work of young women making a positive impact in their communities and the world through this award.

Making a Difference for Women Award:  Soroptimist honors women who work to help other women and girls live their dreams through this award.

Soroptimist Club Grants for Women and Girls

Soroptimist Disaster Relief Fund for Women and Girls

Soroptimst Live Your Dream Campaign

Soroptimist Workplace Campaign to End Domestic Violence:  In its twelfth year, this program focuses on the fact that women do not leave abuse behind when they go to work. Annually, members distribute tens of thousands of domestic violence hotline cards; organize public forums; collaborate with local advocacy groups; and support domestic violence shelters. Our local shelter is Napa Emergency Women's Shelter.

Soroptimist recently launched a new awareness project addressing the sexual slavery of women and girls. On January 11, 2008, the first U.S. national day of Human Trafficking Awareness, Soroptimist members distributed specially designed flyers, which helped citizens identify victims and combat sexual slavery, around the world.
